Christmas Vacation

We traveled to Sedona, Arizona for our Christmas Vacation. On the way we stopped in Albuquerque, NM visited the aquarium there. The kids loved seeing the fish and we ate lunch in the restaurant next to the big shark tank with large sea turtles and "Fatty" the shark. It was a nice relaxing road trip. I love road trips and now that the kids are older they are also enjoying the road trips alot more. In Sedona we spent time with family and went on a Pink Jeep tour with my wonderful father in law. My mother in law always takes such good care of us while we are there. She cooks, plays with the kids and she visits with me. The kids got to see their cousins and play all day with them. The weather was beautiful. On the way home we stopped at the Grand Canyon. The kids were not all that impressed and Hope told her teacher it was this big (she held her hands about 6 inches apart). It was a little cold but the colors were beautiful. Hopefully we will go back someday and hike a little or ride some mules.

Hope has been doing AMAZING since her stay in the hospital. She is growing, eating really well and sleeping so good. For Christmas she got a bed of her own and she has been really enjoying it. No more sleeping with Mommy and Daddy!!! She goes to preschool 4 mornings a week and enjoys it. She is learning her ABC's and numbers as well as cutting, drawing and telling stories (even though she doesnt need any assistance with story telling)!

Monday the preschool had their Christmas Party but it got cut short due to a blizzard that swept through. We got dumped on!! Lots of snow, drifts etc. Yesterday we got the golf cart out, tied 2 sleds to the back of it and pulled the kids around town. It was soooo much fun!!! The kids did not want to quit. We were all cold and wet went home and sat by the fire to get warmy.

This year Grace will be in the 4th grade!! Isaac starts 2nd, Faith 1st and Hope will go to preschool.

This summer really flew by especially August. We spent the whole month sick. We all go sick starting July 30 with cryptosporidium and then Hope got sick Aug 4th and she just got out of the hospital on August 19th. Long scary days of not knowing how to help her, what to do for her and who to turn to for help. Her symptoms were lethargy, stomach cramps, diarhea, vomiting and one day I swear she was a violent drunk. She was so agitated by everything but I think her head was pounding from the dehydration. She was not able to walk for 2 weeks and barely hold her head up. The day we transferred to Albuquerque she would not even swallow. She would hold her spit in her mouth. The doctors are always scared to deal with her anyway cause they have no experience with people with short gut that arent on medical assistance for fluids and TPN. I believe she got the cryptosporidium but also bacterial overgrowth and the combination of vomiting and diarhea just depleted her body of fluids. She was dehydrated and wasn’t able to drink or eat. We gave her flagyl and lotrimil. The lotrimil finally stopped her bowels from working altogether. They didn’t work for about 2 days and then on Tuesday the 16th she woke up hungry. She gained 2lbs from eating and being on a high volume of IV fluids. After we took her off the IV fluids on Wednesday the 17th she was extremely dizzy and wasn’t wanting to drink anything yet. We decided just to wait it out and see if she would start drinking and eating again. By Friday morning she was feeling somewhat better and the doctor suggested we leave and take her some place fun. We left and went to the Aquarium to look at the fishys. She had lots of fun and was very happy to be out of the hospital by Saturday morning she decided she better drink lots of fluids so she didn’t have to go back to the hospital!

This morning she was ready to go to preschool. She made it 2 hours then ready to come home and nap.

I apologize it has been wayyyyy to long since my last update.

Things have been crazy around the Vernier household the past few months. The kids are finishing up school and summer will be here before we know it.

March 29 Hope got a really bad case of food poisoning and she got dehydrated really quickly. She spent a nite in the hospital getting rehydrated and she has been doing well since. I weaned her this past week and it was definitely harder on Mom than it was on Hope. She has been doing really well without nursing. I was worried she would lose weight etc but she has actually gained weight. When she got dehydrated she went from 27lbs to 24lbs and now she is up to 29 lbs!!! Yeah!

She is an eating machine. Chinese food is her all time favorite. The waiters and waitresses love to see her come into the restaurant.

Grace, Isaac and Faith had their track and field day yesterday. The weather was horrible but the kids had lots of fun anyway.

The kids recently had their Science Fair. Grace studied Colorful Rainbows, Isaac studied Oil Spills in the Ocean and Faith Baked a Cake.

Grace received Third Place in her division and although Isaac and Faith didn’t win a place they gained knowledge. Faith said as we were leaving the award ceremony “ No one picked me” she was a little disappointed but this is her first year. Many, many more to go!!

Faith was the Christmas tree in the school program. She wowed the crowd with her singing.

Isaac played the role of Dancer and Grace was Dasher.

We hope the holidays were merry and bright and your New Year was Happy!

We had all of the above and then some. Our family is so truly blessed with loving family and friends to support us throughout the year.

Thank you to everyone!

Hope is doing very well. She gained a pound in 2 months and although that doesn’t sound like much for her it is amazing. She is so active and growing so tall it is hard to keep up with her in calories. She is still breast feeding and on the gluten free diet. She can eat three eggs, a piece of sausage and a waffle get up from the table and want a snack! She is an eating machine. She eats constantly!

We continue with her chiropractic care once a week and the cranial sacrial therapy as needed. I would like to do it more often so that is a goal for this year. We also see her vitmain nutritionist once a month. She isnt to fond of her vitamins but they do help.

The others are enjoying school. They are gearing up for the science fair that will coming soon.

It is so hard to believe that Hope will be 3 next month!! Time has flown that is for sure. Hope is doing well again. She had a tooth that would not get past the gum so it was causing her a lot of pain! She would cry and cry. I took her to the dentist thinking he was going to have to pull it out but he said “ I think the worst is behind you” UGH!! At least she is finally past it and the tooth will hopefully not cause her any more pain. She was such a trooper at the dentist. She did not cry or scream. She let the lady clean her teeth and just really enjoyed the whole experience. YEAH!

The end of summer is rapidly approaching! The days are getting shorter :(

The kids are enjoying school. Everyone is getting settled into a routine.

Faith is enjoying kindergarten. She got her finger stuck in the bathroom door Wednesday night and it almost took the tip of her finger off. Chuck rushed her to the emergency room where they sedated her and put nine stitches in her fingertip to keep it attached. She also broke the bone in the tip of the finger. It is the ring finger on her right hand so she is learning to use her left hand a lot. She has been such a trooper hardly complaining about the pain.

Hope has been an eating machine the last week. I guess she is taking one more growth spurt before the winter begins. On Thursday she ate 10 pancakes, 4 helpings of noodles with cheese, one helping of cheesy rice, banana, granola bar, 4 eggs with ham and cheese and nursed about 10 times!!!! Hope has never slept more than 5 hours at a time at night but 2 nights back to back she slept 10 hours straight!!! The first night I slept really good but the second night I couldn't sleep cause I was worried!!!

Grace and Isaac woke up early this morning to go help gather the cows. They didn’t want to go but were very grateful Mom made them go because they really enjoyed themselves.

Busy Week

This was the kids first week of school. Faith started kindergarten, Isaac first grade and Grace started third grade! I cant believe they are getting so big and growing up so fast. Just seems like last year Grace was going to kindergarten. They have gotten to be lots of fun. We are diaper free around here since Hope decided about 3 weeks ago she was done with pull ups. She has done amazing. Only 3 accidents in that time. She has missed the kids while they are gone to school but then she gets mommy all to herself. I was worried about Faith going to school all day long. She did really good the first 2 days but by Wednesday she was exhausted.
She went to bed early and woke up refreshed for Thursday which was her 5th birthday! She had a great day and had a birthday celebration at school. She got a new bike, some clothes and the best gift of all a light saber.

Hope has been doing well. She still complains of tummy aches all day everyday but we still don’t know why she has tummy pain. Otherwise she is growing and happy. She eats good and drinks lots of water. She is also very happy because she got her own light saber!

She has many uses for her tricycle.

Who wants to go a round or two!

Hope has been feeling really good since her last episode. She had a really bad headache with vomiting and diarhea but whatever it was it helped her feel better!!!

We had a great trip to Red River, NM. Lots of fun, food and beautiful mountains. The kids had a great time fishing, riding the ski lift, hiking and playing at the playground. They got to spend lots of time with grandparents and cousins. The were able to visit the Taos Pueblo and see some very beautiful Indian jewelry, bows and arrows, head dresses and more. Hope met a very special woman who made her a hematite bracelet. It was very moving to watch Hope and this woman interact.

Things have been so busy since school got out. We did swimming lessons for a week which was very good for the kids they enjoyed it a lot and learned quite a lot. Then we moved into VBS which they enjoyed even more.

Hope has been doing pretty well. She has been having a lot of abdominal pain so we decided to have an upper GI done. It did not show anything. The GI doctor had nothing to really offer on why it might be occuring so for now we just have to work through the days of pain and see if there is maybe a food causing it or if it is growing pains. She has grown 2 inches in the past 3 months. Her weight was up to 25lbs but since she has been growing upward her weight kind of dropped. Hope did not enjoy the fireworks. They were tooooooo loud she says!

Hope loves her pink horse. She puts on her cowgirl hat, skirt and tells him giddyup!

She is doing so well. She is knows her colors, can count to 10 and is learning her letters. Today she was telling me all about doors, countertops, bathtubs and all the different appliances in the house. She is growing taller and gaining weight. Last week she weighed almost 24lbs. She loves to go to Sunday school with the big kids and loves to play dressup. We still have her on the gluten free diet, try to avoid sugar, corn and pastuerized milk products as much as possible but she loves her cheesy eggs, cheesy noodles and cheesy rice. Yesterday she tried “turkey” aka jerky. She took a couple of bites then said “too spicy”. Her all time favorite food is Chinese food. She loves her “sausage” as she calls it. She has her vitamin regime that she hates but makes her feel so much better, she gets adjusted by the chiropractor once a week and still goes for cranial sacrial when we have the chance.

That’s right today is the big 2nd birthday! She has had a great day with lots of birthday wishes, presents and a photo shoot. Thank you everyone for all the well wishes and prayers through the past two years. The past two years have come and gone and most days I wonder where they went it was sooo fast. All the babies are growing up and getting big.

Hope’s favorite phrase these days is “Do it myself” she has some independence but most days is a mommas girl.

Hope gained 3 pounds in 2 months!!!! She weighs 21 lbs and 12 oz.

She has never gained this much in such a short time. She has been eating pretty much non stop all day every day. Some days it is hard for Mommy to keep up. We have her on a parasite cleanse and several different food enzymes to help her digest proteins, fats and carbohydrates. I was very skeptical about doing the parasite cleanse fearing it would be non stop poop but it has been just the opposite. Her poop has become nice and thick and some days if it were brown you wouldn’t know she had a short bowel!!! (sorry for the graphic poop talk) Her overall health and mental health has benefited tremendously as well. She is so much happier and carefree. She is still nursing and on the gluten free diet. She is talking up a storm. Today is she describing everything by color. She loves her purple apples (grapes). Everything to her is an apple. She loves grape juice, apple juice and orange juice and drinks about 24 oz of water a day. She eats lots of scrambled eggs and breakfast sausage. She discovered Agave nectar and has to have it on everything.

Faith will be in preschool for 3 hours a day. She is very proud of her backpack. She spied this and had to have it! There are 3 preschoolers this year.

Isaac starts kindergarten today! My little boy is growing up :( I didnt cry today but was a little emotional yesterday. He is sooo excited and ready for school. Grace kept telling him “ You better be ready cause school is alllll day.” There are 4 kindergarteners this year.

Grace is in second grade this year. She found a really neat backpack she loved. She is ready for school. It will be interesting to see how they do since they will be in the same room all day with the same teacher.

Hope finally took the plunge and got on the horse with Grace. Hope loves to look at the horses and talk about them but has always been a little intimidated by their size and getting up so high. Today she conquered all of those and rode with Grace. It was soooooo cute and as you can see by the smiles on their faces they really enjoyed themselves.

Its been awhile!

It has been a busy summer. We just finished VBS the kids had a wonderful time but were completely exhausted as were mommy and daddy.

It has also been a crazy week. We ended up taking Hope to the emergency room a week ago Saturday because she was not acting right. She was sleeping alot and when she would stand up she was very clumsy, wobbly and very cranky. The doctor felt she was dehydrated so he gave her some IV fluids. We were there for 9 hours!!!!!! A very long night that's for sure but she was feeling better the next day but by Thursday she developed a cough, vomiting and fever that lasted til Sunday. The doctors felt it was viral so it is running its course. Today she is feeling better. Still a little cranky and clingy but getting back on course.

Potty training

Hope has put herself in potty training and she is pretty good at it. She does really well with the morning poop in the potty. She rubs her tummy and says potty so we run to the potty.

Hope is up to 19 lbs 6 oz which means she has gained a pound and 6 ounces since April 17th. She is very active with walking and running.

I have been taking food enzymes which pass through the breast milk and it has really helped her a lot. I had tried giving them directly to her but she was not handling them all that well. Now I give her chewable papaya tablets after her meals to also help with her digestion. She still takes the chlorophyll and multivitamin as well. We are still doing the gluten free diet. She still eats yogurt and other milk products. She drinks water and some juices. We recently tried to give her some EO28 splash to get her some more calories during the day but she was not impressed. I recently got a Vita Mix to make smoothies. She is loving the smoothies and the popsicles. She loves enchilada and gluten free noodles with cheese. Her favorite breakfast food is sausage with syrup. Yum!

Happy St. Patrick's Day!

The kids were very excited to go to school today and show off their new green shirts and 4 leaf clover necklaces. The weather has been so beautiful.

Warm and most importantly no wind!

Hope is doing very well she was at 19lbs last week. Her feet have grown and she is wearing 18-24month clothes now. She went from a size 2 shoe to a size 4 in about a month.

I don't post too much about her routine or the things we do to keep her healthy so I am taking a little time to let those who read the blog know. I take her to the chiropractor once a week to keep her little body in line. This keeps her in balance and helps her digestion as well. I take her to the cranial sacrial therapist about every 2 months or so. I wish I could take her once a month but it is expensive. I give her 3 drops of black walnut extract and 3 drops of chloryphyll both are to keep the bad bacteria out of her gut. That is one major problem short gut children have to deal with alot. It causes alot of gas, abdomen distention, lots of watery poo and slowed intestinal mobility. I give her probio eleven probiotics and vita wave which is a mulitivitamin.

Hope is doing really well. She is up to 18 lbs now and walking like she's been doing it forever. Her favorite word is "horse" and next favorite is "cow" She loves to go look at the horses and cows. Another word she uses alot is "eat" which she loves to do even though she is sometimes picky about what she eats. She loves her cheetohs, eggs and yogurt. The rest she could do without but those are the staples I know really nutritional but it keeps her happy!

Today is Isaac's 5th birthday. He walked into the preschool room today and announced he was going to kindergarten. Then he was mad when I told him it wouldn't be for another 6 months!

My Favorite New Toy

Hope got this train for Christmas and she loves it. She especially likes to get behind it and walk. It plays all kinds of neat music to dance to.

Hope is doing good. She spends most of her day perfecting walking. She was able to see her IMT therapist last Tuesday and it has made a world of difference in finally getting rid of that nasty bug that got her before Christmas. She is much happier and her stools have thickened back up. We are still doing the gluten free diet. She eats bananas, rice cereal, eggs, sausage, bacon, potatoes, sweet potatoes, popcorn and pretty much anything else she can get her hands on.

Hope is doing well. She took two tiny steps by herself last night! Today she weighed 16lbs 7 oz which means she lost almost 2 pounds when she was sick. We have some catching up to do on her weight that is for sure.

Hope was still not feeling all that great and did not want to have her Christmas picture taken.

Hope is finally back to herself and she had a wonderful treat today ---Pancakes!!!! I found some of Pamelas Gluten free baking mix which is very tasty and easy to use. The pancakes were yummy!

We are spending the Christmas vacation in Sedona and yes the kids went sledding today!!! They were cold and wet but they had a great time.

Hope is finally feeling better today after her bout of stomach virus. She spent pretty much all day last Wednesday throwing up and then the watery stools started. She has never had watery ones before so we were very worried. We found a chiropractor in Sedona and she got adjusted yesterday and today and is doing much much better. She is finally taking a nap today. Whew! The chiropractor also practices NAET so she did a treatment for gluten today.

She still hasnt had too much of an appetite but we found a place that makes gluten free pizza crusts so I know she will be eating dinner tonight. Hope was missing her pizza thats for sure!!

Christmas program

The kids had their church and school Christmas programs. They went very well. Unfortunately the stomach flu hit us hard. Faith had to miss her school program because she threw up all over her dress. We are finally over it. Hope was very, very sick and still not 100%. Her appetite isnt back yet.Hopefully it will be back soon. She weighed 17lbs 8oz the day she got sick. I hope she hasnt lost to much weight.
